PAGCOR Sees Bright Outlook for Philippine Tourism, Gaming
Chairman Efraim Genuino of the Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corp.
predicted yesterday a brighter outlook for Philippine tourism and the
state gaming agency as he stepped up a more aggressive domestic and
international promotions campaign to bring in more visitors.
At the same time, he announced a
record-setting R5.41-billion income for the first quarter of the year
and credited this to the firm and able leadership of President Gloria
Macapagal Arroyo and the efforts and extraordinary performance of
PAGCORs 11,000-strong managers and employees.
The PAGCOR chief said: From Day One, President
Arroyo made it clear that her mandate was to make PAGCOR the top
revenue earner of the government to spur economic activity, provide
jobs and enable us to contribute more substantially to much-needed
government programs, especially those that would benefit the poor. We
offer this victory to her who has inspired us no end to work harder.
At the same time, the President was credited with
choosing a dedicated team to manage PAGCOR. The admirable and
extraordinary efforts of the state agencys public relations
informationmedia department, headed by Director Edward F. King, was
cited for its yeomans work in promoting the state gaming agency here
and abroad.
Our record-breaking income shows that the outlook is
bright for the local gaming industry and that we will continue to keep
up with the extraordinary boom in gaming venues worldwide, Genuino
said.
The PAGCOR has embarked on an expansion program. Its
slot machines and gaming tables are now available in more tourist
hotels in the Metro Manila area, like the Pan Pacific Hotel, the
Westin Philippine Plaza, and the Hyatt Marina Hotel, in addition to
the established locations at the Holiday Inn Pavilion, the Heritage
CasinoHotel, the Grand Boulevard and the Parañaque Entertainment
Center.
