Seminoles’ Hard Rock Casino to Open
South Florida’s Seminole Indian Tribe is opening the state’s biggest
casino complex this week — the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino at Hollywood,
Fla.
The Seminoles have shown big profits in past years by selling
tax-free cigarettes and operating bingo halls, but the Hard Rock is its
biggest venture.
The hotel, shopping and gambling complex in Hollywood could lead to
new riches or saddle it with debt, the Palm Beach Post reported Monday.
"How could it flop?" asks Jim Shore, the tribe’s chief attorney. "A
lot of things could happen in the future. If you let (fear of) risk take
control of your future, you will never develop. We’re positive-thinking
people."
The $250 million complex, four years in the making, opens Tuesday.
It is part of a $410 million deal with Baltimore developer David
Cordish. The Seminoles opened a similar Hard Rock Hotel & Casino outside
Tampa in March. The Tampa casino, smaller than the new one, attracts
20,000 people a day, twice the tribe’s expectations
