English Casinos Begin to Open Virtual Doors
The UK is on the verge of opening some of the best land-based casinos (not to
mention online casinos) the country has ever seen. Thanks to the UK
Gambling Bill, casinos have taken on a new air of sophistication that will be
put to the test very soon.
One of the first new casinos to open their doors is Gala Casino. Owned
and operated by Sunderland’s, the Gala was once operating out of North Bridge
Street, but is now in the River Quarter with massive improvements and hi-tech
upgrades. As opposed to the seven-something tables at the old Gala, the
new Gala Casino will have twenty-one gaming tables (including American roulette
and Stud Poker), nearly forty slot machines, and a sports betting lounge with a
jumbo flat screen that will let punters place their bets with an electronic
touch pad.
Sunderland’s operates nearly thirty casinos in the U.K., and Gala is now
their best and brightest. To celebrate the grand opening (only special
tours have been given until now) a giant party was hosted in the nearly 30,000
square foot casino. There was a very large turnout, which General Manager,
Phil Tait, said the casino is now expecting on a regular basis.
