Market Share Shows Harrah’s Rebound
Casinos are firing up their skillets and revving their margarita
mixers in a new race for Kansas Citys gambling dollar.
Harrahs North Kansas City Casino & Hotel in September posted
a 29.3 percent share of market revenues, its strongest showing in nearly
two years and perhaps a first step on a steep climb back to the top of
the local gambling industry.
If so, the casino is re-engaging in the marketplace battle with an
arsenal of nongambling attractions.
Harrahs is close to completion of a $126 million makeover that in
part upgraded the gaming floor with new player amenities like a live
poker room and a trendy lounge.
For the long haul, however, the difference makers may prove to be
Harrahs new restaurants, shops like Starbucks, and a 192- room
hotel addition all open now plus two glitzy nightclubs set for
ribbon cuttings this month. All are expected to drive increased foot
traffic through the facility and ultimately into the casino.
Were excited about the September numbers, said Arlene Alleman,
marketing vice president for Harrahs Missouri and Iowa operations.
Consumers are looking for more than just a gaming experience, said
Alleman. They want a great dinner and some great music, too.
