Search Engines Sued for Advertising Online Casinos
A California judge ruled that two gamblers who have
sued 13 major search engines, including Google, Yahoo, and Ask Jeeves
will be allowed to proceed with the evidence-gathering stage in their
case. The two claim that they lost money as a result of gambling in
online casinos that were advertised alongside search results on the
search engines.
Sponsored links, the method of advertising which relies on keyword
advertisements on search engines, has become one of the top methods for
advertising on the internet, and according to the Goldman Sachs Group,
the sponsored link industry will be a business worth $5.16 billion by
the end of 2005.
Googles spokesman said that Mario Cisneros and Michael Voight filed the
suit only after Google stopped allowing sponsored link advertising for
online casinos and gambling sites.
