Roulette Rules
Objective
Roulette is played by tossing a small ball into a spinning wheel containing
thirty-seven numbered niches, which serve as the resting place for the ball
when the wheel ceases to spin. The objective of the game is to
accurately predict which numbered niche the ball will settle in. A
correct prediction earns a payoff on your wager, whose size is dependent on
the manner in which the wager was made.
Classes
of Bets
There are ten different possible classes of bets that can be placed on the
Roulette table. They all differ in regards to what numbers they cover
and how much money they pay.
The Straight Bet: This wager is made on a
single number. The chip is set on the corresponding number. The
odds payoff is 35 to 1.
The Column Bet: This wager is made on one
of the three columns of twelve numbers on the roulette table. The chip is set
in one of the three marked boxes at the end of the rows. The odds payoff
is 2 to 1 for a winning prediction. Zero and double zero are not in any
column and therefore produce a losing column bet.
The Dozens Bet: This wager is made on one
of the three outside boxes on the roulette table marked 1st, 2nd and 3rd 12.
The 1st 12 box corresponds to numbers 1-12, while the two other boxes follow
in order. The chip is set in the corresponding box on the table.
This bet is like the column bet but with different numbers on the wager.
The odds payoff is the same – 2 to 1.
Black or Red Bet: This wager is made on either
a black or red number. The chip is set in either of the two boxes marked
"red" or "black". A winning wager produces even odds (1 to 1).
Zero and double zero both produce a losing bet.
Odd or Even Bet: This wager is made on either
an odd or even number. The chip is set in either of the two boxes marked
"even" or "odd". A winning wager produces even odds (1 to 1). Zero
and double zero both produce a losing bet.
High or Low Number Bet: This wager is
made on either numbers 1-18, called the high box, or, on numbers 19-36, called
the low box. The chip is set in either the box marked "1 to 18" or "19
to 36". A winning wager produces even odds (1 to 1). Zero and
double zero both produce a losing bet.
Two Number or Split Bet: This wager is
made on any two adjacent numbers on the roulette table. The chip is set
on the line separating two numbers. If either number is hit, the bet
wins. The odds payoff is 17 to 1.
Row or Street Bet: This wager is made on
one of the twelve rows of three numbers. The chip is set directly
outside the row to place the bet. If one of the three numbers is hit, the bet
wins with an odds payoff of 11 to 1.
Corner or Square Bet: This wager is made on
four numbers. The chip is set on the intersection point of four numbers.
For instance, a Corner Bet could be made on the numbers 1, 2, 4 or 5 by
placing the chip on the middle point of the line separating the numbers on the
table. If one of the four numbers is hit, the bet wins with an odds
payoff of 8 to 1.
Six Number Bet: This wager is made on six
numbers. The chip is set directly outside the line separating two rows
of numbers (outside the third column). If one the six numbers is hit,
the bet wins with an odds payoff of 5 to 1.
